If you have Remember Missing Font Names turned on, you shouldn't have to do anything before returning the files. Can't you just live with the temporary substitution made on your machine? I mean, it's Dingbats, so I presume you're talking about bullet characters and such. It's not like you're going to be editing it. :-)

That's doable, if not seeing the right symbols is really a problem. You can map an unavailable font to another font of your choosing in the maker.ini file's [UnknownToKnownFontMap] section. The entry for your maker.ini would look something like this:
ZapfDingbats,*,*,*= ZapfDingbats BT,*,*,*
