I hope your attitude regarding your co-workers and/or your employer
does not show itself in your interactions there. It could easily be
interpreted as arrogance, and your continued tenure could become
somewhat uncomfortable.
Personally, when I am on a paid assignment I edit my work with care,
streamlining and simplifying both the grammar and the vocabulary.
Elements of style remain, but in a far more muted fashion than in the
writing I do for pleasure or for the stream-of-consciousness writing
of mail lists and discussion groups. My challenge is to produce work
that is clear and easy to follow for a wide variety of readers,
including those whose first language may not be English. Should there
be a conflict between a "distinctive" style and clarity, clarity
always must win.
You might consider Ernest Hemingway, whose style was rather simple on
its surface. I think it is fair to say his work will continue to hold
up well over the years.
I'm not quite sure what you mean about "Neanderthal" in that context,
except it appears you consider your co-workers to be from some lesser
species. I do hope none of them happen to be on this list or stumble
upon your comment. That could prove somewhat embarrassing.
