Are you asking for a run-time application that will redraw the cables when
users plug them in to the various items? Using straight Illustrator, I don't
know of any way to do this.
If I'm understanding you correctly, the [magic] is Flash. You could
theoretically draw your computer, peripherals, and cables in Illustrator,
import into Flash, then use ActionScript to animate or redraw the cables
based on user input. I don't think that's any small feat, however.
Hope this helps,
-=Ed.
