TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I've been tasked with performing some ISO-related documentation.
Part of this task includes documenting workflow and reporting using Mantis.
(See http://www.mantisbt.org/ if you don't know what Mantis is.)
I'm flummoxed trying to define these terms in the context of "severity" for
bug reporting:
Minor
Feature
Trivial
Text
Tweak
Major
Crash
Block
Some of these severity levels for bug reporting seem redundant; others seem
well, plain stupid. (Why use both "tweak" and "text" if you're just fixing a
typo in the interface. Just pick one and remove the other as a choice, but
it is built into the bug reporting system already.)
Also, why would you include "feature" in a bug tracking system? Would this
mean that a new feature needs to be included?
Seeking ideas and input...
This has also been cross-posted to the STC Tech Editing SIG.
Thanks,
