I meant to post this link a while ago, but temporarily misplaced it. If you have a bit of the font fondler within you, you might want to add Simon Garfield's "Just My Type: A Book About Fonts" to your Christmas wishlist. There's a largish excerpt here:
Garfield gets into the subject to an extent that's mildly disturbing. But it seems to be a fun read -- if you're a bit of a font fondler, anyway.
