Does this study begin to explain why I remember perfectly the parts of
"ferre" (fero, ferre, tuli, latus) but not necessarily anything about
the regular Latin conjugations?

Oh well, quidquid Latine dictum sit altum viditur.

The inverted view of the study is that anything that is seen as easy is
felt unworthy of requiring effort. "Oh, all that stuff follows logically
from the first principles, which themselves are transparently obvious to
the most casual observer. Therefore I need not study at all; I can
derive whatever I need on the spot whilst taking the final exam."

Perhaps Carl E Linderholm (author of Mathematics Made Difficult) was
really on the right track.
