I struggled with Paint.NET - mostly a matter of getting acquainted
with its peculiarities, after being accustomed to something else.
But in general, I find that .NET-based software has a nasty habit of
crapping out without warning. Actually, it's .NET itself that goes
away, with a big, insincere apology about the work I've just lost, but
it nevertheless takes the application down with it when it trips over
its own feet.
That's my biggest beef with Madcap Flare. They based it on .NET.
I still use the program, but I seethe with resentment whenever .NET
crashes, and I've learned to press [Ctrl][Shift][s] ("Save All") about
as frequently as I breathe.
This has had an unexpected side-effect. By making "Save All"
pretty-much automatic, in one program that I use constantly, I've
unintentionally carried that over to other applications, where it is
not so appropriate. For example, I might have one or two Word or
LibreOffice documents open to work on, but a half-dozen other docs
also open just for reference. I want to frequently (pre-emptively?)
save the working docs, but I don't necessarily want to constantly be
saving the resource docs, giving them new file dates and possibly
including accidental changes. "Save All" saves all the open docs,
regardless. Thank you, .NET.
