Assuming the 20-30 chapter files contain xrefs, you'd also need to save each of them as MIF, do the same search-and-replace on them, and then re-save as binary FM. This is eminently scriptable, and as I suggested, if it's something you have to do more than once, it's well worth the cost of implementing a scripted solution.
