Agreed! If a tech writer's only skill is writing, that would be a very
poor tech writer indeed.
I can't imagine any tech writer getting along without the ability to
edit, organize, ask, listen, and learn new technologies.
Other TW skills - creating graphics, speaking to groups, delegating
tasks, etc. - aren't required for every gig, but it's hard to succeed in
a varied career without them.

I don't disagree with any of that, even if it does tend toward
tautology.
What I have in mind, though, are the many people I've worked with over
the years who are so busy "writing well" that they forget to constantly
ask why, for what, and for whom. And they forget also to stop writing
and go out among their putative audience to discover what's working and
what isn't.
