I don't keep up with TECHWR-L so much anymore, so I was surprised and pleased to see my name. (Thanks, Craig!) We're actually working on an update for this book which I hope to have out early in 2012. The easily offended will be happy to learn that the book will have a new title without the word "Idiot" in it, since the rights reverted to the authors. That was so depressing on amazon.com to see people giving it zero stars when they admitted they hadn't read it, just because they didn't like the title for the series.

There are cheap, used copies for sale in good condition.
P.S.: I was amused that some Amazon reader-reviewers were offended by
the book's title.
P.P.S.: Oddly, this thread isn't in the TECHWR-L mailing list archive
for June 2011.

Subject: Question about "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Technical
Writing"
Does anyone know if "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Technical Writing"
(2001), by Krista Van Laan and Catherine Julian, is going to be
updated?
The 10-year old book continues to earn solid reviews. The list price is
$16.95, but I've seen it selling for around $80.
I still have my copy on my desk. I had put so many sticky notes on so
many pages, I finally had to remove them.
I also highlighted so many passages, it looks like a Technicolor Dream
