Politics is everything, and the source of everything that's wrong. Ain't
no getting' round it.

As an aside to the subject, I once had a position where the CEO thought
good documentation was at least half of what made his company's products
successful and frequently told me that hiring me was the best decision
he had made in years. Then the Chairman of the Board passed away
suddenly and was replaced by his widow, who hated the CEO and set about
clearing out him and anyone he had ever hired. So much for "respect"
and "values" and their relation to job longevity and satisfaction.
Sometimes, life just happens no matter how good a handle you think you
have on it.
