It sounds to me as if definition for this proposed publication needs to be nailed down better before anyone tries to takes charg of its formatting. Is it a "real book," a marketing brochure or a technical manual? Continuing to say that it's "in between" is just asking for a turf war to erupt.

Leading is but one of the communication aspects you will want to check out first. We use certain typographical styles to enhance the readability. The font and spacing around headings the decisions about headers and footers and so on are the aspects about which you need to be satisfied with.
