My manager shared a journal article with me from "Best Practices" (from The Center For Information-Development Management, dated October 2011: Mobile Documentation: Usability Guidelines for user assistance on tablets and smartphones by Marta Rauch, from Oracle. The article also contains several references. Worth a read I think. Sorry, I don't know if it's available online or not.
