RE: introducing steps

Showing my age, at one time, procedures were introduced where I worked with the cumbersome phrase "To [goal], the operator performs the following steps", which, as a colleague remarked, sounds like a dance. Over time, the phrase eroded away, one word at a time:

To [goal], the operator performs the following steps:

To [goal], the operator performs the following:

To [goal], the operator performs:

To [goal], the operator:

and finally just:

To [goal]:

I use this last construction today.
