This is the way SurveyMonkey works in "free" mode. I don't know what the
specific policies are for this mailing list but as a former graduate student
myself, I think we need to cut this PHD student some lack. PHD research
related to our field is important.

completion of the survey leads to a set of advertisements. Is this with the
proper use of techwr-l, or does it constitute unpaid advertising? Are there
established methods for doing surveys that avoid the advertising?
