One reason to use both might be that the symbol does not exist in all
character sets and sometimes gets munged beyond recognition.
I had not considered that, but if the document is intended for an international audience and it is a copy, then the symbol should be there, since neither the word nor its accepted abbreviation will offer the protection.
The main
point of a copyright notice these days is to put people on notice that
you intend to enforce your rights.
