I agree. The writers in my group at the time (1996 I believe) all took
the training and at the end we were "certified." We must have taken a
test, but I'm sure it was not hard--just went over what you learned that
week.
I've found the principles I learned in this course helpful and still do.
It's also possibly helpful if you are ever going to move to structured
authoring and DITA because you'll have already learned to group
different types of information.
My two cents.

Subject: Re: Information mapping
I was pleasantly surprised by my Info Mapping training, way back in the
90s. I expected a boring rehash of tech writing fundamentals. Instead,
their basic idea--that you're not so much writing in the classic sense
as
creating easily perceived little "maps" of information--proved useful
and
sensible.
It took me a while to assimilate the ideas and use them, but I found it
all
quite helpful. I don't think I had a test at the end, but the material
was
not difficult.
But that was long ago! YMMV, of course. Good luck.
