The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
As someone who has worked both white collar and blue collar jobs, don't dis
those blue collar workers. I've seen them working outside in sub-freezing
weather, something most white collar workers wouldn't even attempt.
I just saw an add on Craig's list for a technical writer with a college
degree and five years experience for a job in a small town in Michigan's
upper lower peninsula....for $10 an hour. It's times like these that makes
me glad I retired.

Subject: Re: Here's another winner - guess the pay
Today's lunchtime reading on CNN included an article that states that the
worst place to lose your job is Florida. They're got the highest
unemployment rate in the country.
What bothers me about this whole thing is that there's a big difference
between the job skills required for Technical Writing and construction or
the hospitality industry. I hate that what used to be a white collar job is
paying the same rate as blue collar jobs.
