Thing is...many of the engineers, even VPs I have worked with could not spell. Did they know how, and somehow forgot because they no longer have to spell? They also can't write proper sentences. I had to edit Annual Reports. What a mess! And these are not kids or even GenX-ers. Most are Baby Boomers.

On the other hand, I know bright, motivated, kind-hearted, physically fit young people who have a command of the language, and I refuse to write off (with proper spelling) their generation.

The same should go for math (use calculators - quicker, accurate (with a working power source) and require less student and teacher effort) and/or reading (use audio books also requiring less student and teacher effort). From my observations (of K to 12 students,) we are creating an obese, lazy, gimme gimme gimme generation. And that my friends is sad, very sad.
