I freely admit to being a longtime Apple fanboy. That said, I find the scenarios in which the save-everything behavior causes problems far fetched, and much less likely than the scenario in which you lose work that you didn't want to lose. Whether it happens because of a power failure, a crash, a freeze, a Pepsi Syndrome, or an hour of frenzied writing without remembering to save, losing work is bad, and it is not uncommon.
I run Lion at home (I'm using it as I wrote this), and the feature is very easy to get used to. I'm not sorry it was added.
