Culturally/personality-wise (and based on limited personal evidence.... some people I used to hang with), I'd say that the NZ/AU relationship has a lot of similarity to the CAN/US relationship.
One "partner" is softer-edged, polite, and more laid back, while the other is brasher.
AU "Throw another shrimp on the bar-bee."
NZ "Have the Aussie throw another shrimp on the bar-bee, please."
