Carla,

I would say that the grouping is analogous culturally to grouping the US and Canada. I can't recall having seen this particular grouping before, but possibly have in selecting a region, though APAC or Asia Pacific would be more usual.

I would guess that New Zealanders might object to Australia being written in full but nz being abbreviated. It's only two characters longer. Something like Aust/NZ might work OK? Or Oz/NZ? ;) Having /nz like that could *almost* be read as badly spelt australia/ns for singular/plural???
Is Russia being grouped with CIS?

I guess having Aus and NZ combined is better than just having to select an "Other" option. That happens all too frequently. :)

Hope this helps,
Kirsty in Australia

Our programmers are looking at having people type in and/or select a country for a specific software need. Right now they have defined the entry for your area as
"australia/nz".
(Other entries are "china," brazil," "russia," etc.)

Are there any cultural issues with the two countries being grouped together, and for the abbreviation to nz instead of New Zealand? (lowercase is also the programmers' choice, but that's another issue.)

I would like opinions from in-country experts as to whether this is fine, or if it is something they should avoid, and if so, for what reason.

Thanks for your input,
Carla
