If the edict is to come up with "something, anything else" rather
than what it really is ... My opening response is usually to
suggest that we call the new thing :"George"

After an afternoon of increasingly-complex nomenclature problems, the lab instructor drew an impossibly convoluted multiple ring structure with every functional group imaginable hanging off it.
Instructor: "OK, what would you call this one?"
<long silence>
Small voice from back of room:
"How about...Ralph?"
