Fads are short-lived, but the things they are based on often are not. The Atkins diet, for example, has long since died out as a fad, but the company and its products are still around for those who stuck with it after the fad peaked.

There was a period in the 80's and 90's when we saw one personality profiling method after another sweep the hiring field. Most of those methods are still around and still have their adherents, but nobody has required me to take one of those tests as part of an interview process for at least 15 years now.
