People ... very few people get turned in. You submit information, and they
review. PA tries to get the unemployment money to the people ASAP, and
sometimes the paperwork catches up after the money ...
Pennsylvania allows you to have a sideline business. I had one, and because
it was not my primary source of income, I was allowed to collect
unemployment. But I didn't understand the rules for reporting income, so
when I notified them of income from my sideline business, it then triggered
an audit, which I won. It was pretty scary, because I was out of work for
almost 6 months, and then they wanted me to pay it back.
But they did reviews and audits, and I was fine. Again ... it was me who
basically turned myself in. It could be your taxes that triggers an audit,
but they have to check it out ... it makes me feel more confident in the
system.
Kari.
