TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
As an ambi-OS user, I made the switch from Visio to Omnigraffle rather
seamlessly. Here are some things I found:
1) Visio files can be embedded into Office docs as objects. Omnigraffle
docs cannot. I found that exporting the Omnigraffle as a PDF and
linking/embedding that into the Mac:Word document worked the best.
2) Visio provides a powerful programming language for dynamic graphics and
data visualization.
3) Omnigraffle objects are easier to manipulate than Visio. If you know how
to do things in Visio, Omnigraffle is a piece of cake.
