It's actually not all that hard to define your audience. I've done it
in the past. You don't have to be very detailed to get the point
across to your reader as to whether or not they're your intended
audience.
This guide is intended for system administrators who install,
configure, and manage [product name].
or
This guide is designed for novice and experienced [product] users who
will be using [product] to perform the following tasks [long list of
common tasks].
For information about doing [other tasks], consult [other manual in doc set].
