Re: Any Linux users --for your tech writing -- on this list?
Does anyone on this list use a Linux OS for your tech writing job?
I have it on a netbook for personal use, but have never been called on
to use a Linux OS for my tech writing.
I'm asking because I'm wondering if I should use the Windows GIMP
interface for my review.
If you rely on a commercial Adobe/Microsoft GUI as your main editor, you should ignore Linux and keep using Windows. :-)
If you want to use Linux, you should probably learn to use either Vim or Emacs, as primary editor.
Though there are some GUIs: Scribus, Eclipse (for some XML editing), LyX (for TeX-centric). For graphics, GIMP and Inkscape are two of the main tools.
There are Windows-centric versions of most of these open source tools, so you can start learning them on Windows or Mac, and later the OS choice will matter much less.
DocBook, DITA, TeX/LaTeX, Sphinx, Doxygen, and other similar tools work well on Linux, often better than on Windows.
