Here's something different.
I got a job call today, and the recruiter says "I was looking at your resume
and I see you are a real contractor."
I have to agree with the archive, applying to an ad is rarely successful.
You have 100 competitors at least, of which maybe 10 are truly qualified,
and after they don't hire you, HR disposes of your resume so they don't even
have you in the database to contact on future jobs or this one when their
pick either bails for something better or is booted since he wasn't
qualified to be there in the first place.
