>From Word 2007 onward you can only hide built in styles from display. Then
you will also want to make sure the shortcut keys for Heading 3 and Heading
4 automatically set Heading 2.
Word 2003 and previous allowed a hack of sorts: Save the document as RTF.
Then open the document in a good text editor (not notepad). Find te block
of code that defines the styles, and delete the ones you don't want. With
some practice you can get really good at it.
