Once, just before starting a short contract, I copped a stick in the face playing hockey. There was a large, messy, Y-shaped scar on the chin and because of the stitches and swelling I hadn't been able to shave for about a week. So my new colleagues must have wondered what happened to that average-looking guy from the job interview. Otherwise I had that usual first-day, good impression look, but the face looked like it had come straight from a rough night sleeping under a bridge.
Then there was the time I was stung on the eyebrow by a bee, just before a week-long road trip to visit colleagues in another city...
