Dan,
But, the MSTP talks about select and clear as verbs. I want a noun (or
would that be an adjective). I don't want to talk about the process of
selecting or clearing the checkbox. I want to talk about the state of a
checkbox that was selected or cleared three years ago, as part of
application configuration, that the user need never look at again.
That's why it's ambiguous to me. I just don't see "is cleared" as the
state of a checkbox that was never selected let alone cleared by the user
(ie, the user has not actually physically cleared it... it started out
unchecked and has remained that way) three years ago and has not been
touched since.

WADR, Tony, this is from MSTP:
"Select and clear: Use for check boxes."

enabled."
