Great comments all!

Getting down to brass tacks, I'd go for the title that pays the most. <G>

Have you considered "Documentalist"? Because we do write documents, and sometimes we have to be a "mentalist"; that is, someone capable of reading minds, to get the info we need!

Marguerite

Same answer as for "technical communicator": If there's a job listing for a "documentarian" with experience documenting APIs and quality processes, then by gosh you're a documentarian. If they're advertising for a technical writer, better stick with the old name.

Those who film documentaries and also documenting things.

Playing Devil's advocate here, why can't documentary film makers and technical writers/communicators share the title "documentarian?"

I know you folks have strong opinions, so let 'em rip.
