I've spent the past several weeks recreating a several-hundred page user
manual from another company's PDF version. Note that there is no Framemaker
presence here.
Because of the many changes I had to make, my methodology was to chunk the
OEM manual into small bits and rework it in Word. I thought I would then
create several smaller PDFs from my Word docs, then combine the PDFS using
Acrobat Pro. So far, so good.
In the middle of the night it occurred to me... how am I going to index the
final user manual? I haven't a clue. I'd like to avoid Frame if I can (due
to internal issues), but will make a pitch for it if there isn't a better
way.
Ideas?
