If you are aiming for the Israeli market, telecommuting as a tech/marketing writer would be very difficult. Translations are different. Employers/clients expect F2F meetings from time to time.

Subject: Moving from TR and ED to TC & MC, Need information on studies and work
Importance: High
I am in transition from ca 30 years of technical, scientific, medical, legal and commercial translation into technical communication and marcomm. The idea is to telecommute from my current office, next to my house.
Have been a passive member here and on Techshoret
Like most of us, I have a variety of degrees and certificates in various areas of knowledge and professions. I am now attending the STC (a member) TECHOMM101 and plan to take a major intensive course with WritePoint to cover documentation planning, using the various tools, many of which I own, know and used in their far older versions, and more.
I would most highly appreciate if some of you could write to me, on-line or off-line, whichever way you find convenient and tell me about their own experience
- what they studied and where to modify their abilities to match the need of the market, - what they found useful and what not,
- how they went about getting contract work,
What I really hope to find is some "big sister or brother" to give me a helping hand through some short discussions, to help me cross the line safely.
I live in Finland. I write in and translate into English, Finnish and Hebrew.
Of course any and every input will be most appreciated!
