As a follower of the Volokh Conspiracy <http://www.volokh.com/>, a blog
that focuses on Constitutional law, I visited Professor Eugene Volokh's
webpage at UCLA <http://www2.law.ucla.edu/volokh/> where he's the Gary
T. Schwartz Professor of Law. Taking a look at his extensive list of
articles, I stumbled across this gem...
Given that we technical writers inherit lots of documents from engineers
and programmers, this list of alternatives for legalese applies just as
much to those sorts of documents as it does to legal documents. Of
course, if our subject matter experts/document originators applied this
list (not likely), we might encounter further erosion of the demand for
our services <grin>. Of course, there'd still be plenty of work for us
converting passive voice to active voice, structuring documents
rationally, and all those other things we do that add value.
Best Regards,
Mike
