My thoughts exactly. The primary goal is to make the resume highly
scannable, both by humans and software.

Some application software strips all the formatting out so keeping it
as simple as possible is best.

"I found .. the formatting more difficult to follow than other resumes
I have reviewed" is not something I would want to hear, but without
seeing it it's hard to guess whether there's anything to that or it's
just an outlier opinion.
