Re: Note versus Tip
Hi all,
A search yields nothing. Anyone know of a study that identifies if having a
both a note and a tip in technical communication is useful. that is, if a
tip is an optional thing that helps you finish a task more efficiently, and
a note contains information that affects successful completion of a task,
is there a study that tells us whether our audience cares about the
difference?
Thoughts?
TIP:
Here's a note to say that my own impromptu study, completed just seconds ago, reports that no one, nobody at all, gives a hoot except technical writers. Presentation of information as a side issue suggests to me that the writer is contemplating talking down to me.
If there are six important points that I'd better know to prevent utter destruction of the frammis blotter, I'd really like to see them presented this way:
You should become thoroughly familiar with these six points to prevent utter destruction of the frammis blotter:
1. Antimony mumble
2. Arsenic fumble
3. Aluminum grumble
4. Selenium trumble
5. Hydrogen splather
6. Oxygen kaputnik
