I've not tinkered with it in Windows 8 but in Windows 7 at the bottom of the Personalize screen you can choose the Windows Classic. Once you've done that, there's still a gradient color in the title bar of dialog boxes or the like. I always change that so the two color choices for title bar color are the same (I use 0,0,128). You can then save that configuration as a Windows theme and apply it to other systems. If you want to try my theme file in Windows 8, I'd be glad to send it to you.

What I really wanted to do was change the standard Windows 7 theme to eliminate the gradient in the blue title bar and window border and make the close button a pure red (255,0,0) but I've never figured out how to accomplish that... Microsoft "helpfully" removed that sort of functionality for the standard Windows 7 theme. My screen captures look a little old fashioned but they're based on solid colors and don't look crappy when printed.

Best Regards,

Mike

Hello

I take screenshots to include in PDF manuals. I use Windows 8.

I've noticed that the operating system has a colour scheme that changes the
intensity of colours, depending on where they are on the screen.

When I take a screenshot of something that's near the top of the screen,
the colours are more intense than when I take a screenshot of the same
object that is lower down on the screen. This happens for every
application, which is why I think Windows 8 is responsible.

Because I have to doctor my screenshots (e.g. removing IP addresses and
passwords), it's hard to match the colours.

I've tried changing the colour theme (via Personalize) but that doesn't
change this colour gradation issue.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to turn off the gradation of colours
in Windows 8?

Thanks,
Melanie
