I had to do that as a first-year Computer Science student; and out of
the whole class, my algorithm was the only successful one! The
professor was *painfully* literal in interpreting each physical step
(which I anticipated).



My coup de grace: Joining the two halves as follows (by this point,
each sandwich half was gooey-side-up on each of the professor's palms):

Clap youuir hands once *but do not separate your hands* after
initial contact.

Rotate your still-together hands 90 degrees and hold them parallel
over the plate.

Quickly move your bottom to your stomach, letting the sandwich fall
to the plate.
