My ASUS works great. It does wake up from time to time, but not when closed
(only when asleep and open).
As for specs, you should build future-proofing into your purchase. It's a
very cheap way of ensuring you're good to go for several years. An i7 with
8GB RAM and 500GB-1TB storage won't run you all that much anymore.
