I recommend buying a refurbished Dell Latitude (not an Inspiron) from
the small business section of outlet.dell.com. That gets you better
support and less bloatware crap preinstalled. Their refurbished units
are tested more thoroughly than regular retail units.
Right now I'd get 64-bit Windows 7 Pro. 4GB of RAM is probably enough,
you can always add more cheaply if you need it.
