Hmmm... I'm a recent candidate for a gig at an Albany startup, where
everyone in apparently under 35. That's my son's age and, yeah, he's made
me a grandfather. I look the part, although I had hoped that my Hulk Hogan
'stache (re: LinkedIn profile) might convey the message that I'm also cool
(read: I can jump and jive).
While I got past their hip and groovy questionnaires and the online
personality test (I'm a "Captain"), it came down to the (unimpressive,
judging by his email correspondence) HR guy presenting my case to the CEO
and co-founder. Since no one can tell me story as well as I can, I didn't
get to join the, uh, "cool club." No onsite gym and catered lunches for
me... sigh.
It was really all just a test, though. If it was meant to be, I'd schlep
the 16-1.2 miles there to be a part of the organization. If not, then I
content myself with working from homeâbarefoot and in my shorts and
T-shirt, thanks.
