Tech writers generally don't use bleeding-edge tools. They're seldom
as cost-effective as mature ones.
I've been using Confluence for the last two and a half years. I don't
use it as a web server for docs (licensing makes that unappealing),
only for authoring and collaboration with SMEs. I generate PDFs using
Scroll PDF Exporter and web help using Scroll HTML Exporter.
It's more bleeding-edge than I expected it to be, doesn't seem like
very many people are doing that yet. Getting legacy FrameMaker / Word
/ RoboHelp / Flare docs into the system is much, much harder than it
should be so that is surely keeping Atlassian's market share down in
the tech docs market. That kept me from migrating from FrameMaker at
my last job. Not an issue at my current job since when I started there
were no docs.
