I think Tech Support is your best bet; they know everything. I'm not sure
why the validator thinks .fa: auto doesn't work, but keyframes applies to
animation, and webkit would be Mozilla. There are some spinning icons
listed on font awesome, and you would need the fa-spin class instead of fa. http://fontawesome.io/examples/#animated
Don't have time to try it. ... Please post the solution!
