TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
It's probably a good time to remind everyone that there's no soliciting to
our group. No jobs, no proposals, no surveys, no requests for articles in
an amazing journal should be sent to our list... We, and by that I mean,
Connie and I, have a few mechanisms for working with groups / people /
students who want to reach all of you beautiful / above-average people and
will often work with them to submit the information. For the record we
don't even send our own stuff to everyone very often.
This is a good question and one worth exploring -- first, we'll probably
resend the "please don't break our rules email similar to this one"; the
person who sent the note will immediately be moderated or if they were
moderated we'll just reject the note. From there, it's mostly about
frequency. A one-time offender will get un-moderated after a while and we
all live happily ever after.
Frequent violators (and we had one about six months ago) will inevitably be
banned from the list. It took us about two years of politely rejecting /
requesting before we just banned the email address. This is a last resort,
but we'll do it if needed.

Oh, and don't click on any questionable links -- it's a neat way to get
your email hacked and to possibly send a ton of SPAM to our list if you're
un-moderated. (this happens at about the same rate as the solicitations so
I figured I could combine notes)
All the best
live long and prosper,
