* Maintaining diplomacy while interacting and networking with people
from diverse backgrounds.
* Learning the social and political composition of a business and
applying that knowledge in documentation and product development.
* Knowing the audience better than the audience knows itself.
* Business mapping (for analysis, processes, reengineering,
organization, reorganization, and marketing).

I'm talking about skills we have that we've developed along the way of our careers as Technical Communicators, but that, either individually or in certain combinations, can be applied to higher-level challenges that might have nothing to do with documentation.
