TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
When I'm considering a project outside of my home city, I go to salary.com
and use the Cost-of-Living Wizard. I use it to determine how much I would
need to live in the designated area plus my travel expenses. Then I can
determine what my minimum rate would be.
It's a really nice service.

Subject: Re: Question about pay rates
I'd speculate that it is a bit less than the Bay Area or LA - but perhaps
not by much.
I get contacted for projects in that area - Folsom seems to have quite a bit
of work.
Shall I act more interested, and find out what they are offering?
