read" is a quote from the Microsoft Manual of Style.
I wouldn't state it that way. I also do not always care for Microsoft's style rules.
"The system will create the specified directory if it does not exist"
is a quote from a programmer's guide I wrote and there is nothing
remotely confusing about it when read in context.
That is also the example I provided of how I would make that statement and I had not seen your work.
