My team maintains two versions of help at any one time -- for the #.0 release and the #.1 release.Â
The help is published on the Internet in different folders -- a #.0 folder and a #.1 folder.
For .0, Google indexes the content for a few months. Then when .1 is published, the web team turns off indexing for the .0 folder, and Google indexes the .1 content.
Why turn off indexing for .0? Because we don't want users to find (in some cases) almost identical .0 and .1 versions in Google searches. And the .1 pages describe features that aren't in .0.Â
We lose Google Analytics leverage each time the content is published to a new folder -- "widget" no longer rates at the top of the list when .1 is indexed.Â
Does anyone maintain multiple versions of help on the Internet and have these concerns?
Catherine
